Breakdown Cover
 
Breakdown cover for your vehicle is not essential, however, it is recommended. Breakdown cover is a bit like an insurance policy in that, should you suffer a vehicle breakdown, assistance is provided to either repair the fault and get you back on the road or to transport your vehicle to a garage for essential repairs. The main reason for taking out this type of cover is to ensure that you are not stranded following a vehicle breakdown. Several companies provide breakdown cover but they all generally provide a similar type of service. There are several levels of cover available on the market, however, most of the more reputable breakdown cover companies generally offer 1) Home Start 2) Roadside Recovery and 3) National Recovery. The following outlines each of these main breakdown services.  Home StartApparantly, one in four breakdowns occur at or near the home. The Home Start service covers you if you either breakdown at or within about 1/4 of a mile from your home. If your car cannot be started by the breakdown company, they will normally transport your car to a local garage for any necessary repair works to be undertaken there. Note that this type of cover is especially good for those cold winter mornings when your car just won't start. Think about it, unless you either know or are a mechanic yourself, there's probably very little chance that you'll be able to fix the problem. Cars and their engines are now more complex than ever. It's best to leave it to the specialists. Roadside RecoveryThis service is generally similar to the Home Start service except that it covers you for breakdown as long as you are more than a 1/4 of a mile from your home. National RecoveryWith this breakdown service, if you breakdown and your vehicle cannot be repaired, you and several passengers are covered for onward transportation to your final destination anywhere within the UK. This breakdown cover is very useful for poeple who do a lot of traveling. The Cost of Breakdown CoverThe price you pay for breakdown cover depends on the type and combination of services that you opt for. From the AA, for instance, you can get minimum breakdown cover for a single person from as little as £35.00 per year upto a full family breakdown package of about £200.00 per year. Pick and choose your package as you wish.
