Choosing an ADI Driving Instructor

What will an ADI Driving Instructor do for you? Well, essentially they give you guidance and advice on:

  • practial driving skills
  • practice strategies
  • study material and books
  • timing of theory, hazard perception and practical driving tests.

Once you have found an ADI Driving Instructor that interests you, make contact with them using either our email facility, highlighted in each driving school profile, or by directly giving them a call. Some key questions to ask an ADI Driving Instructor are:

  • what are the hourly rates?
  • are there any special offers or block booking discounts?
  • what different forms of payment are acceptable?
  • what is their pass / success rate?
  • how long have they been in business?
  • what type of vehicle do they use?

When you are happy with your chosen ADI Driving Instructor, go ahead and book some lessons.

It's extremely important that you only appoint an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), who has registered with the Driving Standards Agency (DSA). It is illegal for a non-registered driving instructor to charge a fee for driving lessons.

It's easy to check that a Driving Instructor is an ADI by checking for either a green or pink certificate on the front windscreen of their vehicle. A fully qualified ADI Driving Instructor will display a green certificate and a trainee ADI Driving Instructor will display a pink certificate.

All ADI's have had to pass a series of rigourous and difficult examinations before becoming a fully qualified driving instructor: the industry therefore prides itself on its professionalism and expertise and expects all ADI's to be both reliable and punctual. Should this not be the case, you should consider changing your driving instructor or school.
